This month, IFC researchers headed on a three day writing retreat on beautiful Minjerribah
(North Stradbroke Island).
The retreat included workshops by IFC Director, Professor Brendan Hokowhitu, and Distinguished Professor Aileen Moreton-Robinson, which focused on HDR students and early-career researchers.
The team also undertook traditional weaving and other brain stimulating sessions to encourage lateral thinking. Clearly it was a productive few days with new research and a few books already on the horizon.
HDR participants Rhiannon, Alice, and Kaitlyn, wrote a touching thank you note to Brendan for running the retreat. Below are a few excerpts;
"Much like Bubragowie, your strong roots and dense growth has helped to anchor Critical Indigenous Studies in the turbulent sands of the Academy.”
“Through your intellectual leadership you have uncovered the truth, pulled back the curtains and exposed the facade, of the exclusionary culture of the Academy. You’ve showed us that we belong and that we are worthy of holding space in Academia.”
