Chontel Gibson
Dr Chontel Gibson is a Gamilaraay yinaar (woman), with family and cultural connections in far northwest NSW. Chontel is an occupational therapist with over 20 years of experience working as a clinician, manager and researcher.
Chontel’s research interest centre on community-based approaches that promote flourishing in later life. She is a recognised leader in her field, collaborating with fellow Indigenous occupational therapy scholars to embed Indigenous knowledge in everyday practices. By employing critical theories, she strives to elevate Indigenous perspectives within occupational therapy and more broadly through the health disciplines, via policy, therapeutic care and health curricula.
At the Indigenous Futures Centre, Chontel focuses on showcasing how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people can flourish and re-nourish in the face of racism. Additionally, she is dedicated to supporting the development of a community of practice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander researchers in Western Australia and Northern Territory, promoting collaboration and knowledge sharing.
