Two new honours for IFC Researcher

IFC Theme Leader and Poche Centre Director, Professor James Ward, has received two new honours to add to his accolades, being elected as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences (AAHMS) and receiving the inaugural AAHMS medal for Outstanding First Nations Researcher.

Professor Ward has decades of experience leading Aboriginal health research and has more recently developed an urban Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander research program, also leading to significant research studies.

“Each bit of research builds on the last bit, “he said.

“Even if we don’t hit that end goal, we are moving towards liberation from inequity.”

Professor Ward said he shares the Medal with his colleagues, collaborators, and communities he has worked with, adding he is “standing on the shoulders of giants, my own peoples who have paved the way for our people, some of whom have been fighting a good fight for decades and some who have passed on,”
