Work is well underway at the new ARC Centre of Excellence for Indigenous Futures before its official launch in September.
The Centre is the first Indigenous-led research Centre of Excellence, which received $35-million in funding from the Australian Research Council, with its lead node at The University of Queensland.
Centre Director Professor Brendan Hokowhitu said the Centre will be a first in its approach to Indigenous-led research.
“We will be utilising Indigenous knowledges in unique trans-disciplinary research, with the goal of informing Indigenous policy and policy-makers to help address intergenerational inequity,” he said.
“The Centre will be a first in that both its research is led by Indigenous scholars and all its research too will involve First Nation communities through the entire process.
“From this, not only will new knowledge be created, but we will also be able to help build evidence-based Indigenous policy and implementation.”
